Beyond Barriers – Restoring Lives begun with a dream, a passion born from lots of pain and hurt and a deep desire to do better for others. The name was first registered in 2013 when Daniel and Tammy Cinzio set out to provide adventure therapy/suicide prevention to the local young people in the suburb of Flagstone, in South East Queensland. They purchased a well weathered model of the Pinnacle of Terror trailer, totally stripped it down, had it sandblasted, painted, new climbing walls etc put on and started using it in the Flagstone and surrounding areas. It was a community collaboration to do this – Deluxe Queensland – the Browns Plains branch, donate all the paint and various local helped to paint, assemble, engineer and get this amazing mobile adventure therapy tool bacon the road.

We also had the opportunity to visit an amazing place – Delhuntie Park, in Victoria, that were and continue to do, an amazing work for young people. We decided that their camp program was a very powerful tool that could significantly impact the lives of young people anywhere, and so  decided to bring this opportunity up to Queensland. It was no small task, but we asked the guys from the Delhuntie Park team to come and assist and train us to be able to facilitate similar event up here in QLD and they said yes!!!! We ran a number of week long outdoor adventure camps – taking both community groups and target groups from the local high school. They were amazing times – taking young people from every type of pain and loss and trauma and addiction, out into the bush, no technology, not even watches, and providing for them the most amazing adventure therapy camo ever! They got to absail, hike, swim, campfire cook, games, hurts program, and huge affirmation and love. It was like a reset for so many young people’s lives…

Through a series of horrible work related life events, Daniel and Tammy had to stop doing what they were doing and then Covid hit. Our insurance company went broke and we lost the opportunity to facilitate the camps and the adventure therapy.

However, we did start an op-shop and Foodbank in the Flagstone area – and ended up providing an amazing variety and volume of fresh and long life and frozen food for nearly 600 people every week. This lasted for 2 years – until our venue was resumed and knocked down to make way for the current ALDI shopping facility. Daniel and Tammy also had a relationship breakdown and were divorced a year later.

Daniel has continued to run Beyond Barriers – Restoring Lives LTD, with a faithful team of directors and volunteers. With their desire to practically and directly help struggling people, out of this difficult time has arisen a ministry/community service that visits many homeless camp sites every week. With their two donated trucks, they bring fresh fruit and veg, long life food, bedding, clothing, camping equipment – whatever is donated, to sites south and west of Brisbane city, They also are working to assist the homeless to get electricity through the installation of solar systems. They have also branched out and are supplying wholesale priced car parts to help those struggling with much cheaper repairs.

An unexpected but amazing angel to this work has grown in that they have also received a large and ever growing fleet of donated camper trailers, caravans, cars and even a large bus, that they loan for free to those who have no homes.

They are seeking to get their insurance again for the adventure therapy work, but are currently flat out assisting the homeless. This business includes advocating for these precious people at federal, state and local council levels – doing our best to bring understanding and urgent and immediate assistance to the many people who have lost almost everything.

We are not a big political organisation, rather are simply a group of volunteers who make a difference, in any way we can. We seek to respond as quickly and as practically as possible to the needs that come before us. Because of our track record of faithfully and honest dealings, we are often trusted to make a difference. During the recent Cyclone Alfred that came to the South Queensland area, we received two donations totalling $10,000 for the direct relief of the homeless. We hunted around, negotiated charitable pricing and bought tarps, poles, ropes and pegs and gave these out. Not a cent was left and sooo many people now have quality cover for the extreme times they are living through – outdoors through cyclone, storms and blazing summer sun.

We know the power of community, adventure therapy, practical help and hope. With this in mind we host Christmas Parties, Water-ski Days, Beach 4WD trips and more to continue to build community and provide outstanding opportunities for people battling with depression and trauma, to get a leg-up. We remain ever committed to this cause.

Were are a non-denominational, non-religious group who love the creator of all things, who respect Him as the one who knows us and as the one who has done so much in our lives. His name is God and we call him Dad, cause he is a faithful father, to so many who have lost so much. He is our provider.

We are a fully ACNC registered company, are a Publicly Benevolent Company and have DGR Status.

We are always seeking volunteer support, financial support, donations relating to the work we do and are so very grateful for every gift we receive.

We plan to expand the adventure therapy program with the purchase of a large Zodiac Boat, 2 tow vehicles for the tens of thousands of kilometres we travel every year assisting people to move their mobile accomodation, etc etc and the purchase of equipment to again facilitate the outdoor programs. Currently Daniel’s faithful 20 plus year old land cruiser is working overtime to keep things going and his little boat goes out on regular trips around the lakes and rivers, giving people the opportunity of experiencing the beauty and serenity of the water, the animals, the landscapes and the adventure of skimming along close to the water. These trips will be expanded to include snorkelling trips, visiting uninhabited islands, exploring river sections etc.

Fuel, fruit and veg, registration and insurance and vehicle maintenance are our main costs and these are all met simply through the donations of others. Donations range from $20/week right up to yearly larger contributions.

Daniel has had the opportunity of being a guest speaker at many different community and church groups, including Rotary, Quota, Probus, My House and others. His passion is to get the word our about what is going in and has a deeply powerful personal testimony relating to moving from victimhood into passionate purpose, through life altering adversity.

In the near future we plan to expand and take the suicide prevention program, the intervention camps and hope to outback towns throughout Australia. What started as the dream in the heart and mind of a young coupe has now grown to be a recognised and deeply appreciated organisation that makes a difference in peoples lives all around our city.

Should others share the passion and wish to be involved, or to start another chapter or similar program in other areas, we would love to talk to and support you in whatever way we can. Please email us at admin@beyondbarriers.com.au and well get right back to you ASAP.
